I listened to Jimi Hendrix's iconic interpretation of the Star Spangled Banner this morning, and considering the tragedy at the Boston Marathon yesterday, it only seems fitting. No singer or band could ever come close to conveying that kind of truth and emotion while performing our country's anthem. Though the song is meant to represent freedom and liberty, Hendrix represented it in a more melancholy and frustrated way. Somehow, through the sounds of his guitar mocking bombs, sirens and screams, there seems to be a sliver of hope that exists in the song. Again, my thoughts are with those affected by yesterday's bombings.
